change the launcher shortcut command from : "VirtualBox" to :
"env XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 VirtualBox"

Thanks for this - been looking for a solution to this problem since VBox 3 came out - just didn't have enough info to log a bug.

but this unables also 3d accelleration. Isn't it?
